Friday: Boring and emotional day in my life....
Class = boring...
Double English = boring... Talked about sub-civilised Singapore and stuff. Totally bored and stuff... Thot that the lesson will never end....
PE (Gym) = Very fun, did my cartwheels, and had lotsa balancing to do on the trampoline... Rocks!!!
Recess = Drink lemon tea and sing routinely....
Maths = more boring SEXY and Quadratic equations.... Yawn*
Chinese - Lame song presented by YangWZ... Erpz... Corruption in computer... Toked more crap abt the tangshi...
Double Science - Made the Ber~ (wadeva) Funnel to collect the leaf litter and stuff.. Very time-wasting... Toked abt the bean plants with frass and stuff.... Not very interesting as well....
Then did classrm cleaning... Arranged tables and stuff... Then Mrs CHung began giving out titbits to evryone... Lolx... And handed out the term reports...
Me check....
English = B3
Chinese = A1
Maths = A1
Science = A2
Com. Studies = A1
IH = A2...
Wait... IH A2? Erpz... Mrs Giam moderated the scores!!! Yeah!!
Which adds up to an MSG of... 1.6666!!! 4th in class....
Class positions:
1. Yong Lin (1.1)
2. Tai Boon (1.3)
3. Sheng Wei (1.5)
4. Me and Zheng Hang (1.6)
6. Sua Yu and Kun Won (1.8)
8. Yu Feng, Jian Yi and Lerong (2.0)
Yeah.. So happy!!!!
Now to the sad part.... Band farewell....
It began at about 3.30pm... When all settled down in the air-conditioned, blue carpeted, messy band room. Khai Boon the Drum Major 2004 went up and invited the sec fours up on the podium to speak their minds... The feeling of separation is stirring up a little... Eyes a lil teary... Avoid glares from Sean and Kun Won... Erpz... Ok... Then it was the section giving out presents... Harmonicas for my sec 4 eupho seniors bought by our SL....
Then it was the time for tea reception... Sean and I gave our presents to Mong and Isaac.... Mong took out the card and read... He was half-laughing and teary... "Don't cry cos' I don't want to cry" he said... The scene was indeed comical yet tears came into my eyes again.... Wiped off with hankerchief...Then Isaac opened his present, saw the card said "aiyo, so wordy... read later..." and look at the present - 2 Tags symbolising his cute and evil personalities and a wooden stand saying "frens4eva - always be at ur side when you need it."... He was rather touched at our friendship and we hugged him like a big brother.... Back to Mong again, when he took out his present - a cup with the sign of Taurus, his zodiac sign as I remembered correctly, and he had tears in his eyes with a sincere "thank you so much"... Omg, I was like so very sad and touched and was so speechless and everything went blank as we looked at each other... It was a mutual feeling... I mean, Sean, me, Mong and Isaac, the friendship bonding is always there, isn't it? Goin to miss their jokes and company... "absence make the hear grows fonder"....
Then Haoquan suddenly popped out and talked to me for a while, then for some reason, I suddenly just burst into tears... I was at first teary than the tears flood out... The senior-junior relationship is so strong between us that I will neva forget him ever in my life... He was like consoling me with words like "Go outside and eat larh.." and "don't cry anymore larh.. I will be coming back to band frequently next time" which made me cried even more... Ok, so i am too emotional like Ms Sharma's departure oso... I cried a lot after the singing of the song "Wind beneath my wings.." - "Did you ever noe that you r my hero? And everything I wish I could be?" I mean, I related this song to her and then i cried during the Teachers' Day rehearsal and celebration itself... She is still a jovial teacher in my mind and I am still missing her...
After settling down, I drank some fruit punch. Then some friends consoled me some more at the sight of my red eyes. Ok, then I went to the toilet to wash my face... Went back to band room.. Daniel arrived from his biology competition...
Then he went to the podium to speak his two cents worth and passed the maize, symbol of DM power to Khai Boon and the bonding started.... In case you have been trapped in the caves of Uganda for ur whole life or at a place where there is no tradition of CHS that can be spread about, bonding is a tradition whereby pple gather in groups to strip off one person's clothes and pants just revealing his undies... In this case, the bonded person had to suffer more - Daniel. As a DM, he was of course stripped off till his undies and had to suffer drawings of a blue permanent marker on his body... Haha... I mean everyone was so damn interested abt looking lorh.. Erpz.. This tradition must stop! Then Kar Wai was the next victim with the marker drawings...
NOTE: BONDING IS A VERY DANGEROUS 'SPORT'. IN TODAY'S CASE, DANIEL GOT A CUT AND WAS BLEEDING ON HIS LEFT FOREHEAD.. "sayang" ALFRED WAS HURT WITH A BUM ON HIS HEAD FOR BEING NEAR THE BONDING CORNER... BOTH KAR WAI AND DANIEL HAD THEIR ZIPS OF PANTS PULLED OFF... (Luckily they had extra pants for returning home..)THEREFORE, IT IS NOT ADVISABLE TO BOND PEOPLE...
Then the band was dismissed, when we gave our presents to Alfred, daniel and HQ. Just when I gave Hao Quan my present, I cried again... (ALL UR FAULT!!) Tears poured again and I was like so touched by HQ's words on Tuesday's sectionals... Read the previous entries... Then I was like so sad.. AFter hugging him, and Kun won hugging him, I was like still so sad... Then everyone was like "Ey, Khee Xuan's crying arh?" and all came to console me and stuff... Erpz... Tts why I HATE crying in front of pple but I cannot control it lor... It was just too emotional... All events during the band camp and stuff.. Ok... Settled down some more... See Mong, Isaac, Sean and Jiawei playing bridge... Then I joined them and see-see...
Erpz... Can I just stop crying? Mong asked me not to cry when I was teary and I asked him not to talk anymore. Mong's consolation just made me cry more and more.... I think I am over-emotional liaoz... But I realli enjoyed the times we had during the band camp. He rocks in the amazing race at East coast park... Very farni as well... Then Daniel and Alfred began giving out presents...
Sean, Harrapan and Rujun all got a small piggy bank with a note from Daniel and Alfred.. It was rather tribal, whereby the pple hafta kneel down in front of the 2 goody seniors to 'claim' their gifts... I was rather taken aback when Alfred called my name to receive their gift. I was like not from their section and didnt believe Sean when he told me tt Alfred was givin me sth at first... I went to them, kneeled down and...
.
.
.
.
.
.
. looked into their eyes, the sincere and teary ones from Alfred and the nice and charming ones of Daniel's. Then my vision blurred. Shit. More tears again... I cried when the thoughts of parting with my fave bro Daniel and Alfred surfaced.... Erm... They gave me a dolphin glass bottle with shreds of paper decoration and a note from them inside it... I was drowning myself with my remaining tears depositied in my eyes since my lazt cry last yr.... Then Daniel put my bottle aside and F5-ed me for 20 odd rounds and asked me if I Felt better... Dizzy but at least i am not choking with my tears anymore...Then everyone sat in one circle and toked more... Very emotional and solemn...
Daniel and Alfred then opened their gifts and Alfred's was a bear and he was rather happy with our card for him... Daniel oso had a cup with a smiley face and used it immediately after one wash.... He, me and Sean shared the 'holy water' in the cup and drank it all... Cheers to our brotherhood!!! Daniel isn't that emotional and he was happy no doubt, "I never let myself cry one." and parting with him is indeed my saddest moments in my CHS life... He described me as his GREATEST junior and younger bro, very touched by his message.... Will keep these presents always... Thks so much...
Then me and Sean went home, with the last glance at the seniors before going home... Very sad but as pple said, "departure is inevitable in this world" so erm, mebbe I have to learn how to accept it and cry lesser than ever...

THursday - Class party...
Firstly, we started the day with Ms Choh's most interesting lesson of Double English, talking abt everything in the world and stuff...
Recess next then we had CL lessons as Sarah Foo was sick, again....
After that, we had maths lesson when we did more boring maths CHIAFL papers....
And chinese, with the whole double periods listening to the chinese 'pop' songs...
Thats just the brief thing for our class yesterday...
Mi then went to street soccer corner to support our class for the SU football league... Sadly, they lost 4-1... Nevertheless we encouraged them and hopefully cheered them up with smiles and consolations....
Then we had the komapng thing, with me and Zheng Hang playing at West Springs... The boys there are very fun and enjoyable to be with, even though the kompang performance itself sucks... Nevertheless, we still have to go there during the hols. for more practices.
Then mi and Zh went to the class party at Kuang Li's hse = THe Tessarina!! Very fun cos' we almost immediately started to play mahjong as soon as we got there... Play like siao then got a lot of pple oso want to play... In the end I won abt $2 sth and went home at abt 9pm. The party rocks no doubt and I am glad that most of us enjoyed it....
Then I watched AMI,very nice and I almost cried when Diana said her consolation words for being second. I mean, she showed her maturity and growth as compared to her first audition and I am very proud of her development in herself alongside with this competition. Fantasia in my opinion, sang rather nicely as well, and shld win due to the favour of all....
Then I wrote the cards with emotions for our sec 4 band seniors' farewell today and went to sleep at one...

Day started with the Maths Lesson. Went to CR8 for the Maths Lesson... Computer+Maths+Equations = Graphmatica! Yep, we fiddled with that, finished worksheet and stuff. ChungHk Mrs. very biased lorh, its like she said that the way i use 'the equations are the same' was retarded and she wanted me to use words like 'equal and repeated' then after that she used 'the same' herself... I tried to tell her Mdm Tham taught us about the slow retarded wat of using 'the same' and she didnt care... Fine... The sitting arrangement rocks... Me, Sua yu and Kun Won to one computer... Guess what? Tai Boon, Jian Yi and Sheng Wei for another... Lolz... Me and my matchmaking crap... Getting irritated by myself...
Then we had double Chinese... Erm... Boring.... We did composition in class and stuff... BOOORRRINNNG!!! Despite Ting Wei's suck-ups, we still have our compos... Aiyah, stupidity rulez!
Then was recess, prawn noodle rox!

Tuesday:
Ok... Generally today is a fairly so-so day... Not much interesting stuff to talk abt...
Firstly, went to school at 6.40am. Saw Ting Wei playing the stupid Divine Intervention game... Hoo-hum... Boring... Yay! He shot down the fat pink monster....!!! So?
Then went for band, played national anthem, then dum-di-dam... First lesson was Malay, last one with Ms Tan Hui San. We learnt about our family tree... Veri normal lesson. Sad that it was our last lesson, no doubt relieved in a sense... I tink I got A for that subject cos' I saw her mark register... Oops.. Aniwaez, she made us compulsory to go for kompang practices on Thursday then go for the class party... Haiz...
Next, it was recess. Me, yu feng and kun won went to look for Mr. Kevin Cheng... Erm.. Yarh, discussed about the schedule for the IH play rehearsals. Blah.... Then it was 9.50, end of recess. Mr. KC asked for Yu Feng's hp no... Evil. So I remarked Kun Won that he would call Yu Feng or sms him "I Love You" messages to him every minute. Of cos' Mr. KC overheard me and told me that he didnt do that to me.... Ok... I said w/o thinking... "Cos' I am not attractive!" Oops... Am I being to crude / offensive again? Wadeva... If you think this is a cold joke, IT IS NOT MEANT TO BE A JOKE!!!
Assembly time... Boring... No movement... Toked abt the IP and other stuff... The only action was when Albert changed places with me cos' he talked too much... Then during the group singing, Mrs. Chung was spotted waving her hands! Lolz... Rather comical.. but at least she is enthu rite?
Then went for PCME about some SLC stuff... Yawn*...
Then we had Chinese lesson... Ting Xie lorhz... I got 29/31... Not that bad a score... Erm... YangWZ did some gymnastics stuff on the table during the lesson. Definitely amusing... I mean, the whole class clapped bcos he jumped and sat on the table. Wow! The class is getting lamer and lamer each day... So am I...
Next, English lesson. The ST Articles, that pissed Ms Clarinda off. A few pple neva hand in their compres so she is at endurance level 60%. Not all people have read the ST articles mentioned last week. Endurance at 30%... Half the class did not answer the guided questions... No more endurance left. Decided not to teach the lesson alreadi. Ask kun won to photocopy the articles and just give the worksheet. Hmm... Mebbe this method is more constructive in a sense that people get to reflect on the articles itself than having a chaotic discussion...
Had rice for my lunch... Me, Jian Yi, Jeffrey, Sua Yu, Sheng Wei and Yu Feng said on the same table. Then one person sat on another end, the outlier of the group... Guess who? Lolz... Ok... The curry chicken was nice, the potatoes were the best... At least the lunch was filling...
Went back to class for Australian English Competition... Extremely stupid... Always hated this... I foresee another credit/participation for this... Then I went to band...
Went to band, a few people there already... Wait for juniors... They come... Practice start. Teach them chromatics... They suck... Went to the window to see Marcus and gang play for the street soccer match... Boring... They still dunnoe how to play... Force them to memorise... Still don't noe... Ivan ask them to go home... They went home... Kun Won came after the Literature thing... He played percussion and I love to hear percussion... Sing some songs... Saxaphone sparstic lameass anti-GEPers came in... me stop singing... irritated by their presence... Then went home... Walked to carpark with Sean and Kun Won, Yi SHan and KH.....
Home is more boring... Ate salmon teriyaki and chicken soup for dinner... Lotsa hmwk to do... Thats all... bb

Monday:
Start off the day by waking up late... Mi rush for school then find out got no band... Phew.. No need to take instrument liaoz.. Erm.. Then we had extended reading period of unbearably long 40 mins!
Next, when it was supposingly Science IDS and our gp conveniently forgot to bring the 1.5l bottle for some leaf litter experiment, then YangWZ came! Yeah! No Science lesson! So we went to the library for some 'discussion' and homework copying. (duh..) Ok, Jian Yi, Yu Feng, Sua Yu, Kun Won and I sat down on the table for some Top 10 quiz questions like.. "What's the most common cat's name in Australia? 1. Pus" and things like that. Indeed interesting... Then Laurang called mi and said that she was down the library and stuff. I narrowly avoided her and walked out the library for recess. Phew..
Then, I began my routine singing, when nicholas, the SW moderator popped in to see me and kun won. But I told him that kun won wasn't in the class. He seemed a little disappointed and walked off after 5 minutes. I was too shy to say anything so I didnt. Then recess is gone.
Next, was double Literature. Boring... Zheng Hang's presentation totally bored me to tears. Cos' its like after exams alreadi liaoz, then still must analyse some LOTF chapters.. Hoo-hum... Again, Yu feng was being enthu, Tai boon being gay and asking irrelevant questions and stuff. Definitely uniteresting....
Then was history lesson... Omigosh, how boring can Monday get? The only interesting that happened was when Mrs. Giam saw Jeremy attempting to cut my hair (again) when I wasnt alert and she confiscated his guntings and said that it won't be returned again.
Second recess - We decided on where to have our lunch. School? SIM? HCjC? Coro? Then we tried to poach Yu feng to join us. Today's subject is about Yu Feng btw. Then he said that "I don't want to eat with YOU!" (points at me) FINE! Then me, Jian Yi, Sua Yu, Sheng Wei and Tai Boon eat together decided to eat together at SIM instead.
Maths lesson... More of ChungHK to love. Her present of the day = cola sweets!!! Yeah! Finally sth different other than melted chocolate easter bunny and fanciful 3 yr old stickers!
Then was Chinese lesson, talked more about a particular lesson... Crappy and stuff... Listened to Yong Lin's song of the day... Spoiled everyone's appetite. Reflection: Liang Wen Fu is bad in composing his mono rhythmic and melody piece.
Then go for lunch. Before that Tai Boon went to 'sayang' Yu Feng (YF) by touching his hair and Jeffrey touched his leg and stuff. None of my business though then we walked to SIM when Jeffrey and Ting Wei(not forgetting to mention Alex Tan) popped up uninvited! Ok, mebbe we DID NOT REJECT Jeffrey's self-invitation but Ting Wei and Alex? Eww.... Ok... Mi had chicken chop... More mockery about 2nd intakers, mainstreamers and niggers = ting wei and stuff... Then we talked about YF.. Again... Boooring... Why wud we wanna tok abt an internationally recognised 'cute' anti-social all the time. OK... At least Tai Boon, Wei Shi, Jian Yi and Jeffrey finds him hot and cute wadeva... So YF is currently the main target of all erm~... I wonder why didnt we realise his "cuteness" and wadeva last year? Ok aniwaez, Tai Boon, fortunately said that I was not cute... Phew... Saved from being harrassed by another homosexual. Then the food came and we ate it.. (duh..)
Mi went to third lang on bus... Saw how dearest Shi En kana bullied... Lolz.. Amusing yet interesting... Like squealing mouse or sth... Then went to third lang.. Slept for 30 secs in class. Recess break... Said hi to Yi Yi then kana more attitude. Fine... Then toked to Marcus... Koped twisties and stuff. Early dismissal... Then crap... At home now trying to do some homework... Darn boring...
Quote of the day: Monday's boring... and SQX surfed porn in class todae... Ewww....

SATURDAY AND SUNDAY!!!
Another boring weekend after last week... Erm... Let's see:
Saturday: Start off the day with a boring bus ride to school at 8.30 for Band practices. Very little people attended the practice. Most pon i think... We played a high noted Glasgow Fair that I just "acted" as if I played it. I suck in Euphonium playing larh... Then, we took turn to play some useless James Bond songs.... Then got break, when the sec ones went for PT. Me and kun won then snooped off to the Science Lab to water our germinated frassed bean plants for the Science IDS. Some of the beans have roots alreadi! Yeah! Then we snooped back unnoticed. Phew. More songs playing. Until band was dismissed at 1.15pm.
Then I had to go for VE. No time for lunch cos' I remembered I have a lunch appointment with Pin Yan and Shi En. Went to the music rm, he told me that shi en cannot go for the lunch thing. Fine. Then boobsy SiewYP came with some tight orange shirt with a jeans pattern covering her fake boobs. Who cares? ANyway, we had our practice. As usual, the freaky Lan Ying Jie was fiddling with his damn computer and we were r pissed by his extra-ness. Linda Tan then wanted to place our voice at the keyboard lab above. Ok.. So Darrell, Jonathan Wong, Pin Yan and Ying Jie went up. It was then my turn when SYP said that it was 3.45pm and that LInda Tan will hear my voice next week. Ok, that's that.
Then I went for lunch with Pin Yan at Golden Rooster in coronation plaza. His first time there. I had lemon chicken rice and Ice Milo with Jelly. Not bad, very nice to fill my stomach. Then we talked about his family and stuff. Got to know more about his 'sad' side, not entirely but more of his family background. On our way down the escalator, someone shouted my glorified and honoured name. I turned around, saw Sean, Kian Hong and Ru Jin. So? Ok.. Then i took bus 74 'home'.
Now to the bus ride. It was not very crowded so I sat on the upper decker and wanted to listen to my discman. Darn! No battery. Then i took a nap. I woke up. Hmm... Ang Mo Kio station, not yet. So I slept some more.. Then I woke up again. Hougang Bus Terminal? Omg, i overslept to the terminal. I lazily woke up and waited for the bus back home. Walked a long way home then found out that no one was at home.
Mi then ate cup noodles for dinner cos' I have no money left after the lunch with pin Yan. Then I downloaded the American Idol Top 3 songs and the original versions. From limewire, I dloaded another South Park cartoon called "The Death Camp of Tolerance" its a little funny about tolerating homosexuals, where the gay Mr. Garrison stuffed Lemmewinks (a hamster) into Mr. Slaves (his boyf)'s ass. Eww... Gross.. Anyway, Melissa Manchester's "Don't Cry Out Loud" rocks, the one Diana sang for the last song. And I dloaded "Greatest Love of All" Karaoke's version and sang my hearts out. No one complained about my singing in the neighbourhood so I sang and sang...
Lastly, I finished my Maths homework and xi zi and went to sleep at about 11pm.
Sunday: Boring day...
Woke up at 11.30am. Parents went out to work. My struggling with the chinese essay "my father", anyhow write but captures the essence of my father. Then had laksa for lunch, bought $2 worth of titbits and then listen to more songs. Upgraded LimeWire and imitating more artistes, doing compre in a very distracted way even Clarinda Ms dun allow. Eating twisties now... Life's boring... Esp. weekends...

THURSDAY AND FRIDAY:
Thursday: Kompang rulez! Played at WSSS for the second time. The Sec 4s there were more welcoming and ok... one even said tt he wanted to bring me home... Erpz... So? Mi was made the leader of the Lalu rhythm.... They said I was perfect in playing tt rhythm! I rock! Enough of the egoism here but after the practice, on the way home with Zheng Hang and Ting Wei at the front, me and Tai Boon walking at the back, Tai boon told me sth very shocking...
Quoted, "Ey Khee Xuan. I'm gonna tell you something very flattery or shocking to you in one way. (To me its shocking of cos'. Look at the top sentence...) "Do you know that Ting Wei told me that you (me) very cute when sitting beside him and he had a desire to hug and kiss you (me)?" - [Tai Boon]
EWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! GAY!!!!!!!!! Freakin' homosexual!!!!!!! FaggotZ!!!! Ting wei da Nigger....!!!! Blearghh!!!! Gross... Wadeva shit... No wonder he was playing with my hair during the lesson time b4 the kompang practice... Come to think of it, it sucks....
Then, I took a look at Tai Boon's new guitar... It looks ok, red, but not my fave kind.. No silver stripes or anything... He said mozzie wanted the same design which is blue, therefore the bought the 'lovey dovey' guitars.... Cool!
Then me and Zheng Hang took an LRT home.. Then transferred to MRT... Opp. directions... Then I sat on the NW line to Marina Bay all by myself.... Did i just said All by Myself? Jasmine didnt sang tt very well... At least better than the previous songs, but not good enough.... She got out in the end... Back to the MRT ride, mi too tired then went to slp on the train... Then keep knocking on the panel behind or accidentally leaned on the person beside me... So suay lor, the person bside.... Dare not take chances anymore... Unruly things happen when I sleep on any public transport... Remember how I fell on the bus?
Friday: Lessons started with English... Did australian english competition practise... 67/80! Sucks... Another credit for me AEC liaoz... Then had PE... The teacher lyk want to poach me liddat... Go ask mi which EP3 I was in... I remembered he asked Yu feng as well and told us tt our bodies were fit for gymnastics. Chey! Who wants to grow shorter when he is short.... I mean me and my best friend from Rosyth were of equal height at P6 until he joined gym. Now he is at my eye-level already. See the impact?
Maths is like normally boring.... So is Chinese.... Leaving Science... We travelled back time to P4 for germinating bean seeds.... But now we r more sophisticated... We use animal frass (faeces)! This is for some IDS or PBL thing.... Rather happy with my gp - at least they DO work! [Kai Jun, Jie Fu and Kun Won]....
Then went for band.. Daniel and his percussion playing.... Then i stabbed him with the pliers. Oops? Influenced by Jeremy? Aniwaez, Jeremy had another scissors... He renamed himself from 'gunting merah pemakan' to gunting merah dan gunting jingga pemakan' (Red and orange scissors eater)... He cut some of my hair accidentally today on the way to Sc Lab... Eww... His burning desire to obtain some of my hair.. Why is my hair so sought after in touching? Its just some Organics shampoo onli wad...
Emm.. Yar so like normal... Interacted with Jiunn LIn.. He very cute... Told me about his life in the boarding school.. Got some time table like study time form 8 - 10 and things lyk tt... Had greater relations with Terence todae... Stupid Bob is not here. Again.. Given up on him liaoz... I am veri biased senior that doesnt look like the size of one... Aniwaez, played songs.. and I am now more confident to play Eb!!!Lolz... My playing still sucks...
Then after band Yi Kun, a sec one fatass, that apparently didnt noe that I was his senior, keep irritating me until the verge of me breaking out.. I sang the 'No More Tear' song to him (the chorus) see how it fits the scenario.. He sucks! I am a BIASED senior! Then i rushed out of the room to be attitude... When Hao quan called for me and asked me to accept yi kun cos' he's cute... Bleerghh.... Then i said this sentence to him.. "I have already been trying to accept Terence [another plump guy as my Eupho SL] and there's no use in asking me to like another FATTY!!!!" and this was heard by mr. tan wen chee!!! I was so disgraced.. but i still attituded and went off in a hush.. Aniwaez, this is indeed a stressful week for me and I have loads of homework to complete for this week!
Thats all for these two days... Entries r longer than wad i wrote for last wk!! Lolz...
Follow me say Lolz = Loy. Zak.
haha... Feelin' amused at all your attempts :p

Tips you need to be the next Singapore/ American Idol!!! (from www.foxesonidol.com) shld go check it out!!!
1) Have Some Singing and Performing Talent
Yes, I know I just got done saying that being a good singer is not enough, but first thing’s first. It is still the most important factor. You’ve obviously impressed the judges enough to get to this point, but now you have to impress the viewers – and you only have a few brief moments to do it. Make sure you practice, practice, practice.
Also, you need to be confident when you are up there. Look like you belong there. But don’t overdo it and become overconfident, because then people will turn against you, thinking you’re egotistical. Yes, it’s a fine line, but it’s a line you must learn to walk.
2) Song Choice, Song Choice, Song Choice
How many times have we heard this in the first two seasons? Song choice is absolutely key. Several contestants picked songs that they simply could not handle and ended up looking much worse than they really were. You’ve got to find a song within your range and abilities. Not everybody can belt out a song like Kelly, so you have to work with what you’ve got. If you try to stretch beyond your limits and fail, you will look much worse than if you had stuck to something you could handle. Compare it to ice skating – sure, everybody wants to do a quadruple jump, but it’s better to do the triple and succeed than fall while attempting the quad.
Choose carefully, but try to be unique with your choices. The judges are getting grumpy about hearing certain songs over and over again, and the last thing you want are bad comments from the judges just because they’re sick of the song. Also, if a previous Idol contestant really blew the roof off a song, leave it alone. Trying to sing “Bridge Over Troubled Waters” after Clay did it is begging for a comparison – unless you are truly spectacular, you’ll end up on the short end.
Another aspect of song choice is picking something the audience will enjoy. Have fun with it. Pick songs to get the audience on your side.
3) Be Different
Don’t try to be the next Kelly, Ruben, or Clay. You have to be different. Looking back to the first show, Nikki McKibbin was so different that she made it all the way to third place without the talent shown by many of those who fell before her. Several times over, the judges remarked upon her “unique” look (which was not really unique, but was different from the others on the show). From all accounts, Nikki didn’t have that “look” when she tried out for Popstars. She spent a few bucks on a tongue piercing and some hair dye and, voila! She now had a chance to stand out. But don’t become a Nikki clone either – find a different way to stand out while still being yourself. In the second show, Vanessa Olivarez found a way to look unique, yet reasonably commercial, and thus she was memorable in the Round of Eight. That paid dividends to get her into the finals. Just don’t overdo it. If people gasp and cover their mouths when they see you, you’ve crossed the line.
Clay and Ruben were very different from the Idols on the first show. But trying to duplicate them this time around is just asking for trouble – we’ve already seen a couple attempts to be like last year’s contestants, which have failed. You have to be different now from what was different then.
4) Be Memorable
This might seem to be similar to being unique, but it has a different reasoning behind it. You need to be memorable so you will be known by the viewers. Now that we’re past the initial stages, it’s more difficult if you aren’t already mentioned on the first couple shows leading to the semi-finals. But you can still grab attention with a good story, for example about your family or your childhood. If you have a back story, tell it. If you have a unique personality, flaunt it. In American Idol 2, Josh had a great backstory – he was a Marine competing during a time of war. Sure, some people were upset that he wasn’t on the front lines, but mostly he gained additional support because he was military. Like Nikki, mentioned in #3, above, because he was memorable he managed to make it much farther in the competition than many think he should have gotten based on talent alone.
Another way to be memorable is to chat up the hosts before and after your songs. Hell, chat up the judges! As with the unique look, being memorable alone isn’t going to get you into the Top 10 – you need talent as well. But there will be lots of people with talent, so you need to stand out from them.
5) No Karaoke!
How many times did we hear the term “karaoke” from the judges? They want to hear voices as good as Whitney’s. But they don’t want to hear Whitney – let alone your impersonation of her. You may be better off singing songs that viewers are familiar with (though Ryan Starr did a good job with her “Frim Fram Sauce” number), but you have to do it in a way that does not make it look like you are just imitating the original singer. It’s not easy to do – several times over the seasons, Simon seemed to contradict himself by criticizing somebody for trying to be a clone but then criticizing somebody else for essentially being too original – but if you don’t want to hear Simon call you a karaoke singer, you need to find a way to make it happen. That being said, don’t totally destroy a good song just to be original. In the first season, Rodesia utterly ruined “Daydream Believer” and deservedly went nowhere.
6) No Matter What, Don’t Argue With Simon or the Other Judges!
I cannot stress this enough. Simon can be nasty, he can be mean, and he’ll probably continue to get worse – but he’s usually right (though not always). He’s also a lot wittier than you are likely to be. I mean, Paula Abdul hired a comedy writer to try to hold her own with Simon in the first season and she still got whomped by him in verbal sparring pretty much every week. If he criticizes you, accept it and move on. If you argue with him, you will come off looking like an ass (and sometimes an egotistical one, at that). And when I say not to argue with him, this includes running back to Ryan Seacrest to try slamming Simon from there. We have seen many examples of what not to do; here are a few reiminders:
In the first season, when Justin didn’t like what Simon had to say, Justin called on the audience for their opinions to counter Simon and looked so egotistical that it affected votes against him for at least two weeks. Also in the first season, Ryan, after an absolutely horrid performance of “You Really Got Me,” told Simon he just doesn’t like rock & roll. She was lucky to survive the week, though she was gone the next.
In the second season, Josh was in a running verbal battle with Simon for a few weeks and eventually made comments to the effect that Simon was lucky that Josh had Marine Corps restraints on him. The implication was that he would have beaten up Simon otherwise and Josh likely turned off a lot of voters with an attitude like that. Carmen did a good job most of the way through, but then when Randy slammed her, she stood on stage making an "Oh my God" face like she couldn't believe he was saying she shouldn't win the competition. Then Simon said essentially the same thing. When Ryan asked her if she could indeed win, she said yes. Let's face it, no matter how big a fan people might be of Carmen, there were very few who thought she was indeed better than all of the others and could actually win. Is it a coincidence that she was voted out that very week?
And, of course, in the semi-finals of this very season, Kira Scott slammed Simon after one of her performances and then went after Randy as well. Paula, of all people, had to step in and tell her that there is a fine line between being playful and disrespectful, and Kira had crossed it. Kira somehow made it past that round (because of her comment about “thank you” going a long way, many have surmised she gave an untelevised apology) but she didn’t make it to the finals. Was it at least in part because of her rude behavior? We’ll never know for sure, but it certainly didn’t help her cause.
Meanwhile, whenever Kelly, Tamyra, Ruben, Clay, Trenyce, and some others had any criticism leveled at them (in some cases it was rare, in others more common), they nodded their heads and smiled or said they understood, as if eager to learn and do better. That is the way to accept criticism.
I should also note that this applies to the other judges as well. OK, so it’s unlikely you’ll have to argue with Paula, but Randy has been getting more critical and more likely to voice a strong negative opinion as he did with Carmen, discussed above – Simon must be rubbing off on him. Randy has been in the music business for many years and also generally knows what he’s talking about. Like Simon, if Randy criticizes you, don’t argue. Accept it and learn from it.
It's tough to be a pop star. People will knock you for the silliest reasons. You could be knocked simply for being on American Idol! You have to show that you can handle the criticism, and you can start demonstrating that with the judges. If Randy or Simon say you sounded like a horny cat banished from hell, smile and nod (like Kelly). Or furrow your brow and look as if you are listening and absorbing every syllable (like Ruben). If you get defensive, you will lose – both with the judges and the viewing audience. Make it a mantra, right after the last note: "I will not get defensive. I will not get defensive." You can always vent to your mama when you call her later.
Don’t get me wrong – Simon is by no means always right. He has his own biases just like anybody else. For example, when he has said a few times that Clay’s single release only beat Ruben’s because Clay had “Bridge Over Troubled Waters” on it, he’s simply being ridiculous (though he likely believes it). But even if he is wrong, arguing with him on national television will usually earn you negative points.
And because I know somebody will bring it up, let’s look at the situation with Kim Locke in the semi-finals of the second series. Simon told her she didn’t have any personality and she told him he sucked. Does this prove that arguing with Simon is good? In a word, no. Simon was looking for a sign that she had personality. He basically drove her to show the viewing audience more of who she was. While I think she went a bit overboard and wasn’t terribly clever by saying he sucked, the fact is that his tactic worked for her.
7) Treat Every Performance Like It’s Your Last
More often than not, contestants on Idol get better as they go along. Kelly Clarkson took a little while to get settled, but she was on the first season, so she could get away with it then. Clay had to get in via the Wildcard round. Both of them got away with it, but you shouldn’t count on it. Go for the home run on every swing; be excellent every time! Kimberley Locke had one bad performance and that was the first week of the Top 12! It took her a long time to bury that performance, as she inexplicably popped up in the bottom two a couple of times when she was great! Meanwhile, Clay and Ruben stockpiled excellent performances early on so that when they did stumble, they had already established their fan bases and it didn't matter. That's the key.
8) You Are a Package
If we learned anything from World Idol, it's that personality plays a big part in your success. All of the contestants seemed charming enough, but their actual singing skills varied widely. Heinz Winckler had the looks, had the voice, but seemed devoid of a personality (a "sparkle" as one judge put it). Nothing charms an audience more than a self-effacing sense of humor. Clay Aiken is very good at this. It is important to convey confidence, but don't be afraid to make fun of yourself (which is a sign of confidence in itself). Kelly Clarkson and Ruben Studdard are both affable and charismatic, and are not afraid to poke a little fun at themselves. Simon even said as much in his comments to Scooter Girl in the first episode of AI3; he wants to see a sense of humor. The judges will be relieved to know they aren't dealing with a prima donna, and it is instantly endearing to an audience (while arrogance is an immediate turn-off). These are the people who have to vote for you, give them what they want. Remember, this is just like a job interview, smiling and selling yourself is not a suggestion, it's a requirement.
9) Create a Fan Base
The final piece of advice that will help you move along really takes all of the above and wraps them up with a little bow. In order to progress on American Idol, you need to get people calling in for you. To do that, you need to create a fan base. Look at last year’s results. Clay’s fans have become (in)famous for their dedication. Ruben’s fans obviously held their own quite nicely. The final battle came down to such a small percentage that I say we will never know who actually would have won if Fox had provided the necessary phone capacity. Why? Because both men had huge fan bases. I’ve heard from fans who went out and bought AT&T text messaging just so they could vote for Clay or Ruben. Now that is dedication! You truly have to strike a chord deep within people to create a fan base like this, whether it’s by being different, being memorable, just being a flat-out great singer, or – more likely – a combination of all three.
Another option is to try to adopt an already-existing fan base. If you could, for example, convince the majority of Clay fans that you are the second coming – yet you manage to avoid violating Rule 3, above, you have an instant voting machine. Sure, it won’t be easy, but if you see a chance to grab up some votes from pre-existing fan bases, you should go for it.
Conclusion
So, there you have it – the most important advice you will ever receive on your way to stardom. Well, okay, maybe almost the most important. Practice your singing, practice chatting with the hosts, and get ready to become the next American Idol!

Sick weekend... (cont.)
Mi went to mi uncle's 50th Bday chalet on friday after I realised the fact that there wasnt any band practice at all. (Btw, i find nicholas' signature veri nice... Veri stylo).. Then I felt a little breathless in the car... I already felt queer since thursday's sleep. I developed a running nose at the chalet where mi and my cousin played open hand bridge... A little coughing and wheezing comes... Then before dinner, I felt very tired and feverish. Mi father touched my forehead.. "Hot" he said, then we went for dinner. I had duck porridge in some nearby kopitiam... Then went back to chalet when I felt totally weak. I had a fever and asthma attack. Die! I said. "Not again?" I always encountered bad stuff when I go to some chalet. I remembered once I scratched my entire arms from falling down the stairs of a Changi Safra Chalet resort and also got food poisoning and had to stay in hospital on the eve of my birthday for drinking too much chrysanthemum tea and stuff....
Then saturday and sunday my grandma's friends came. The aunties began their routine chat and fortunately, that was more or less bearable as my room was rather far from the living room where they chat. Here comes the impish terrors. 4 girls, ranging from 3 to 10, were the horrors of my chalet life.. They rocked the whole unit literally, banging and popping into any rooms and slamming the doors like sandwiches. I was so darn pissed off as I was so damn sick and had to tolerate with them. Their heely shoe hitting on the ground sound signalled their arrival to my room. They sort of woke me up from my afternoon nap and anyhow play with my bike and kickscooter, stole my fire when I was playing with it after the BBQ... I hate them! Luckily all's over now...!!!

2nd May 2004:
Worst day of the week = boring... Have to study History and Literature. Woke up at 11 pm, had a bad night yesterday, unable to sleep after completion of Maths ws at 1pm. Woke up, grandma already watching up Hongkong serials again, blabbering and gossiping on the phone. Perhaps tt was what made me had a bad nite and woke me up??
Anyway, had laksa for lunch, then the phone battery went dead when someone called. Ring a bell? Then i continued studying, still cant absorb until 4.30 I dozed off in my parents room. At abt 8pm, i woke up, got a flu after exposure to air con for 4 hrs. Then my parents came back from Genting, fed me with some funny tasting chicken and tasteless tom yam noodle due to my flu. Then i continued mugging, still cant absorb. Talk to a few pple Via MSN. Damn stressed, got IH play, 4 tests to come.... Haiz.... When will this be over?
Btw, tts all for the day, very studious day and of cos boring... Not much to tok abt....

1st May 2004!
Labour Day! Havent been updating for a Week! Omigosh!
No schooling stuff but highlights of MY WEEK!!!
Monday: Erm.. We had our Science test abt Reproduction and stuff. Predicted score 31.5/40! Wish mi luck! After tt was auditioning for the IH Play that we have been workin on' (btw, we skipped 2 lit. periods bcos of this! Yeah!) the other auditioners weren't tt good, and there were onli 9 teams to choose 4? So the verdict... WE GOT IN!! (duh)
Into the Humanities Nite = singing solo of One Voice, but Tai boon (gay) wanted to steal the limelight, so he requested and volunteered himself to sing solo. However, kun won said tt he suck, yu feng being neutral anD I made the choice. "I wun sing solo" Tai boon glee. "You wun as well. We sing duet." Oh mi gosh, this is my worse made decision ever in my life! My only chance to prove my singing talent a.k.a the CHS talent is now stolen by the infamous gay in CHS!
Tuesday: Had Australian Sciene Competition, it is ok, aiming for distinction and 3 CPs!!! ANiwaez, then have stupid sectionals to train up my diaphragm and breathing.... Boring day!
Wednesday: Practiced the chinese cheng yu "xia zi mo xiang" as the "shui guan" one, showed tanls, iSpark head, and peeked at my chinese common test compo score from yangwz's table. 56/70! second in class, beat zheng hang, sua yu, yu feng and sheng wei! Yeah! But lost to yong lin by 1 mark! Who cares, i passed 55! Yoo-hoo! Then had prelims, tham siang wah mdm and yong jong shyan mr. are our lenient and well-known judges? Where the hell is haggy Jasmine Tey? Not here, wait anxiously as the fourth gp. Just when it was our turn, Jasmine Tey turned up! Our computer suddenly seemed to hang or sth, but regain 'its' consciousness fer a lil while. THings were not going OUR way. the transitions were slow, slides unable to change after 12 mouse clicks. It just totally suck. We smoked thru our competition. And for some reason, Jasmine tey went off after our presentation and neva returned! Not fair! The computer worked as normal after tt, is it sth we have done to deserve this?
Thursday: Got back our chinese compo term test. Act very happy, noe my score long ago alreadi wad... Afternoon, went to West Spring Secondary to learn how to play Kompang for our racial harmony day, neva knew oscar's brother studied there. made a lot of hurting jokes abt having 150 aggregate to go to WSSS, felt bad abt it. The Wssers are rather welcoming in a sense. And their facilities arent very well. Very different from CHS, no air-con classrms, but classrms with broken windows, and spoilt fans and things like tt. Then mi and zheng hang were introduced to a sec 4 boy called Iham or sth.. We played the sepula part and i was often off-beat with jian yi! It wasnt mi fault! But it was fun though! More CIP Hours!!! John steven was out on AMI3 btw! Yahoo!
Friday: We passed the prelims! Yeah! Then we had band, erm election = no practice! Yahoo!
Lemme give some awards to some shld be well known pple:
Most touching speech: Edward, doubting his ability to be a percussion SL
Most idiotic speech: MingRen, wanting to be the next Daniel post
Most satisfying being a SL speech: Jian Hui and Damien, being happy just to be a clarinet and tuba section SL
Most convincing speech: Meng Hon, even though being in band for just 1 yr, very well achieved in the area of quartermaster and can compare and contrast malaysia band and s'pore. You rock! Very friendly guy, with farni chinese accent!
Most supportive speech: Khai Boon, for being a popular friendly guy and act sparstic in saxas section!
Most like-politician speech: Kian Hong - being a world class band
Judges = Lam Poh Ling (Evil and aggresive pregnant Paula), Lim Lip Hua (Silent Simon) and Yeo -- --- (Skinny talkative Randy)
After band, i sang Jasmine Trias songs for Christopher and Mong, they were impressed and said tt i rock! thanks for giving me assurance and encouragement! :D
Then took a bus back to ah ma's hse, cos parents in genting.... erm... fell down when i was sleeping standing up, very throw face! :X had yummy chicken wings and corn soup! delicious! mom can neva cook tt...
Saturday: Boring, studied history a little, watch TV and now, blogging. Our online survivor is having new immunity challenge todae, onli I workin, veri sianz... Thats all for the wk.
